Where it came from
Sailor Mars, known as Rei Hino in the Sailor Moon franchise, was released as figure number 92 in the Funko Pop! Animation line. The series was designed to translate Naoko Takeuchi’s iconic manga and anime characters into Funko’s signature stylized, large-headed aesthetic, capturing her classic red and white sailor fuku and signature high ponytail. This figure was produced to meet the significant demand from fans of the 1990s magical girl genre during the broader resurgence of Sailor Moon merchandise in the 2010s.
The design emphasizes the character's status as a shrine maiden, utilizing her distinct color palette to differentiate her from the rest of the Sailor Guardians. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by collectors for its faithful representation of the character's proportions and its accessible entry point into high-end animation memorabilia. It remains a foundational piece for fans of the franchise who seek to assemble the full inner-senshi team in their collections.
