Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Animation line in 2017, this figure captures Ami Mizuno, better known as Sailor Mercury, the intellectual guardian of water and ice from the seminal magical girl franchise Sailor Moon. The figure reflects the iconic aesthetic of the 90s anime, characterized by the character's signature blue-accented sailor fuku and her precise, studious demeanor, which contrasts with the more aggressive tropes common in action figures of the era.
Designed in Funko’s signature stylized aesthetic, the figure aims to distill the complex, flowing character designs of Naoko Takeuchi’s original manga and the subsequent Toei Animation series into a compact, minimalist form. Upon its debut, it was met with significant enthusiasm from the global Sailor Moon fan community, serving as a prominent representation of the series during the mid-2010s revival of the franchise’s popularity in Western markets.
