Where it came from
Shrek, the iconic protagonist of the 2001 DreamWorks animated film, was introduced to the Pop! Movies line as figure number 1599 to celebrate the enduring legacy of the franchise. Designed by Funko’s internal creative team, the figure captures the character's distinctive ogre silhouette and signature tunic. It emerged as part of a wider push by Funko to revisit classic animated cinema, aiming to translate the expressive, slightly subversive aesthetic of the film into the brand's recognizable stylized vinyl format.
The reception of this specific figure has been largely defined by the significant nostalgic following the Shrek franchise maintains two decades after its debut. By adhering to the standardized Pop! proportions while incorporating recognizable character details, the design seeks to appeal to long-time fans who appreciate the satirical tone of the source material. It functions as a modern piece of film memorabilia, intended for collectors who view the Pop! line as a comprehensive archive of pop culture history.
