Where it came from
The Star Sapphire Wonder Woman figure was released as a 2013 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, appearing as part of the Pop! Heroes line under the DC Super Heroes banner. The design depicts Wonder Woman possessed by the violet light of the Star Sapphire Corps, a concept originating from the Green Lantern comic storylines where the character briefly joins the corps. This metallic variant was produced to celebrate the crossover aesthetic of the DC Universe, offering fans a unique color palette that deviates from her traditional primary-colored costume.
Funko’s design approach for this piece focuses on the character's signature silhouette paired with the distinct purple and white color scheme associated with the Star Sapphire ring. The metallic finish was a deliberate choice to distinguish this convention-exclusive release from standard retail figures, appealing to collectors seeking rarity and thematic variation. Upon its release, it became a notable entry for DC fans, representing a specific niche iteration of Diana Prince that highlights the creative interplay between different corners of the DC comic lore.
