Where it came from
Starlight, also known as Annie January, is a central character in the satirical superhero television series The Boys, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2019. The show, based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, deconstructs the superhero genre by depicting 'supes' as deeply flawed and corporatized figures. Funko released this figure, numbered 980 in the Pop! Television line, to capitalize on the show's massive critical and commercial success following its second season.
The design of this vinyl figure captures Starlight's primary superhero costume, reflecting the aesthetic choices of the show's costume department, which intended to balance traditional heroic tropes with a commercialized, marketable look. The figure was produced as part of a broader wave of merchandise that highlights the series' focus on media branding. Like other figures in the Pop! line, it was designed with the signature oversized head and stylized features that have made Funko products a staple of modern pop culture collecting.
