Where it came from
The Strawberry Shortcake Pop! Animation figure, numbered 1294, was released by Funko to commemorate the enduring legacy of the character, who first appeared on American Greetings greeting cards in 1977. Created by illustrator Muriel Fahrion, the character was designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia and sweetness, quickly expanding from cards into an iconic global franchise that defined much of the aesthetic landscape for children’s media in the 1980s.
This specific Funko release fits into the company's broader strategy of celebrating retro pop culture icons through their stylized, large-headed vinyl aesthetic. Designed to appeal to long-time fans who grew up with the character's original scented dolls and cartoon series, the figure maintains the classic strawberry-themed outfit and palette that have remained consistent throughout the brand's various iterations over the past four decades.
