Where it came from
Super Chicken originated as a segment in the 1967 animated series George of the Jungle, created by Jay Ward and Bill Scott. The character served as a comedic parody of caped superheroes, featuring a mild-mannered chicken named Henry Cabot Henhouse III who transformed into the heroic, albeit bumbling, Super Chicken. The design of this Funko Pop! figure captures the character's iconic feathered look, signature cape, and the distinct, slightly surreal aesthetic typical of the mid-century animation style pioneered by Ward's studio.
This Pop! Animation figure, numbered 962, was released as part of Funko's ongoing efforts to catalog classic television characters for a modern collecting audience. By distilling the character's essential traits—such as his wide-eyed expression and determined stance—into the standard Pop! silhouette, the design aims to evoke nostalgia for the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons. It serves as a tribute to the enduring legacy of Jay Ward Productions, which left an indelible mark on television history through its irreverent humor and character-driven storytelling.
