Where it came from
The Blair Monster figure was released as part of the Funko Pop! Deluxe series, commemorating the iconic and grotesque transformation scene from John Carpenter’s 1982 horror masterpiece, The Thing. This specific piece captures the unsettling 'Blair-Monster' manifestation, a highlight of Rob Bottin’s legendary practical effects work, which remains a landmark in the history of practical creature design in cinema.
The design of this Deluxe figure centers on the visceral, multi-limbed assimilation of the character Blair, reflecting Funko’s efforts to adapt complex, non-humanoid horror imagery into their signature stylized aesthetic. Since its arrival, the piece has been recognized by collectors as a faithful, albeit simplified, homage to the film's cult status and its enduring influence on science fiction horror aesthetics.
