Where it came from
The Tuxedo Cat figure was released as the inaugural entry in the Funko Pop! Games series, representing a pivot for the company as it sought to capture the growing crossover audience between vinyl toy collectors and the gaming community. It was designed to reflect the aesthetic of early digital mascot-style characters, emphasizing a clean, minimalist silhouette that would become the hallmark of the entire Pop! line.
The design process focused on translating the recognizable features of a stylized tuxedo-patterned cat into the signature oversized-head, black-eyed template developed by Funko’s creative team. Upon release, the figure was received as a novel curiosity, serving as the foundation for the massive catalog of gaming-related collectibles that followed, establishing the structural and visual conventions that remain central to the brand identity.
