Yoda (Concept Series)

The Yoda Concept Series Funko Pop was released as part of the Star Wars celebration of Ralph McQuarrie’s original pre-production artwork. These designs were essential to the development of the Star Wars aesthetic, as George Lucas utilized McQuarrie’s illustrations to secure funding and visualize the look of the franchise before the first film was finalized. Yoda, in particular, underwent significant visual shifts during early development, and this figure captures the specific, more whimsical and gnome-like iteration present in the early sketches.

Funko’s design team developed the Concept Series to pay homage to the historical creative process behind the original trilogy. By translating McQuarrie’s distinct, hand-painted style into the signature Pop aesthetic, the company aimed to provide long-term fans with a window into the evolution of iconic characters. The release was well-received by collectors who prioritize the lore and behind-the-scenes history of filmmaking over the standard movie-accurate representations found in the broader Star Wars line.
