Where it came from
Zombie Strange, numbered 946 in the Pop! Marvel line, was released as part of a collection inspired by the 2021 Disney+ animated series What If...?. The figure depicts the undead version of Doctor Strange as seen in the episode 'What If... Zombies?!', which explores an alternate reality where a quantum virus has decimated the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Funko produced this item to capture the distinct, decaying aesthetic of the character, incorporating the tattered robes and eerie color palette that defined his appearance on screen.
The design emphasizes the transition from the iconic sorcerer to a reanimated entity, retaining key character elements like the Eye of Agamotto while introducing distressed detailing. Funko's designers focused on replicating the darker, horror-infused tone of the source material. Upon its release, the figure was welcomed by fans of the series and collectors of the wider Marvel Pop! universe for its commitment to the specific visual transformation presented in the animated adaptation.
