Where it came from
Released in the early 1970s, this bulk hardware set was designed to supplement the construction of larger LEGO structures. During this era, the company was transitioning from simple building bricks to more complex modular systems, and sets like the 906-1 served as utilitarian utility packs intended to provide builders with the specific components needed to add functionality and architectural detail to their own creative projects.
The design of these elements reflects the minimalist industrial aesthetic of early plastic brick components. By offering doors and hinges as standalone accessories, the manufacturer allowed children to move beyond basic stacking and experiment with kinetic play features. The set was received as a practical addition to the catalog, valued primarily for its versatility rather than as a centerpiece, and it remains a point of interest for collectors focusing on the early evolution of specialized brick elements.
