Where it came from
The 2 Tyres and Hubs 43 mm set, cataloged as 5270-1, was released by LEGO as a specialized component pack during the late 1980s. These oversized wheels were designed to cater to the growing demand for larger, sturdier vehicle parts that could support more complex Technic and Model Team constructions, reflecting a shift toward engineering-focused builds that required greater ground clearance and stability.
The design of these hubs and tyres emphasizes utilitarian function over intricate detail, characterized by the rugged tread pattern and the distinctive ridged aesthetic common to the era's industrial-style parts. As a standalone accessory set, it was primarily intended to provide builders with modular expansion options, allowing them to upgrade smaller standard models or integrate larger rolling stock into custom free-build projects.
