Where it came from
The 952508-1 Air Boat was released in 2012 as part of the LEGO City Coast Guard subtheme. Designed to simulate maritime rescue operations, this small-scale set provided an accessible entry point into the City line, focusing on the specialized equipment used by emergency responders. It reflects the broader design philosophy of the era, which prioritized functional play features and clear, color-coded instructions suitable for a younger demographic.
The set consists of a molded hull piece and a rotating fan assembly, elements common to the high-mobility rescue vehicles found in the City collection. It was marketed primarily as a promotional polybag set, distributed through various retail channels to complement the larger Coast Guard vessels. Its design emphasizes simplicity and immediate playability, effectively capturing the utilitarian aesthetic of real-world hovercraft utilized in shallow-water or swamp environments.
