Where it came from
Released in 2018 as part of the Lego DC Super Heroes theme, this App-Controlled Batmobile represented a significant shift toward motorized, interactive play within the Lego system. The set was designed to bridge the gap between traditional construction and robotics, utilizing the Powered Up platform to allow users to drive and maneuver the vehicle via a smartphone interface. It reflects a period when the Lego Group heavily experimented with app-integrated features to maintain relevance in a digital-first toy market.
The aesthetic of the model draws inspiration from a utilitarian, armored interpretation of the Batmobile. It features a robust chassis designed to house the two internal motors and the hub required for the Bluetooth connectivity. While the set received praise for its technical ambition and ease of control, some adult fans noted that the heavy focus on the underlying electronics resulted in a simplified exterior build compared to static display models of a similar scale.
