Where it came from
The 621-2 Articulated Petrol Tanker was introduced by Lego in 1971 as part of the Legoland product line. It reflects a pivotal era for the company, during which the focus shifted toward more realistic city-building elements and standardized vehicle design. As a promotional and retail staple of the early 1970s, it showcased the brand's transition toward specialized molded pieces and refined chassis construction intended to foster more immersive play environments.
Designed during a period of experimentation with automotive aesthetics, this model utilized a tractor-trailer configuration that prioritized structural stability and modularity. The design was characterized by the minimalist color palette common to the era, relying on iconic primary colors and basic brick geometry to convey the function of a commercial fuel hauler. It was well-received by the burgeoning community of young builders, serving as an essential logistical unit within the growing Lego town landscape.
