Where it came from
Released in 2012 as part of the LEGO Star Wars Planet Series, set 9679-1 captures the iconic Imperial scout walker and the forest moon of Endor. This series was designed to offer fans a micro-scale representation of legendary Star Wars locales, pairing a miniature vehicle with a detailed, buildable planet orb that doubles as a display stand or ornament. The concept was meant to provide accessible entry points into the LEGO Star Wars universe while appealing to collectors who appreciated the thoughtful engineering required to condense complex machinery like the All Terrain Scout Transport into a small number of pieces.
The AT-ST itself is a staple of the Original Trilogy, most notably appearing during the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. LEGO design teams utilized a compact brick assembly to replicate the walker's signature bipedal stance and swivel-mounted weaponry. The set received a positive reception for its portability and the inclusion of an exclusive AT-ST pilot minifigure, which was highly sought after by collectors of the era. By anchoring the build in the lush, green aesthetic of Endor, the set successfully balances playability with the atmospheric storytelling that defines the LEGO Star Wars line.
