Where it came from
Released in 2012, The Malevolence (set 9515) was designed as part of the LEGO Star Wars theme to coincide with the ongoing success of The Clone Wars animated series. It represents the formidable Separatist flagship commanded by General Grievous, notable for its massive ion cannon that could disable entire Republic fleets. The set was created to capture the scale of this warship in a playable format, featuring a modular design that allowed builders to access the detailed interior bridge and troop quarters.
The model was designed to reflect the industrial, elongated aesthetic of the Separatist dreadnought, balancing the dark color palette of the ship with the functional play features required for the theme. It was well-received by fans of the animated series for including several key characters, such as Ahsoka Tano and General Grievous. Upon its release, it served as a significant addition to the collection of capital ship sets, focusing on the tactical diversity of the Clone Wars era.
