Where it came from
Banana Bash, set number 70136-1, was released as part of the LEGO Legends of Chima theme in 2014. The set was designed to introduce the Gorilla tribe's specific vehicle, the Banana Mech, into the broader conflict centered on the magical resource known as Chi. It reflects the theme's aesthetic of blending animal motifs with futuristic, high-action combat technology, appealing to the younger demographic who followed the accompanying animated television series.
The model was designed as a smaller, accessible entry point within the product line, focusing on the character Gorzan and his signature mech. Designers aimed to capture the playful yet formidable nature of the Gorilla tribe through vibrant coloring and mechanical articulation. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of the series for its specific inclusion of the Gorzan minifigure and the creative use of mechanical components to represent organic animal shapes.
