Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the Lego Star Wars theme, the Black Ace TIE Interceptor (set 75242) was inspired by the animated series Star Wars Resistance. This specialized craft belonged to the character Griff Halloran, a former Imperial ace pilot turned racer. The set was designed to capture the unique, modified aesthetic of the show's racing ships, featuring a distinct color scheme of black and orange that differentiates it from the standard Imperial TIE interceptors seen in the original film trilogy.
The model incorporates several functional design elements, including spring-loaded shooters and an opening cockpit meant to house the Griff Halloran minifigure. It was received by the collector community as a welcome addition to the Star Wars lineup, noted specifically for providing representation to the Resistance animated series. Its design successfully translates the sleek, aggressive geometry of the animated source material into a sturdy building experience, maintaining the classic silhouette of the TIE family while reflecting the customization culture depicted in the show.
