Where it came from
Blocks magazine issue 24, released in late 2016, serves as a dedicated independent publication for the adult fan of LEGO community. This particular edition was published during a period when the magazine was solidifying its reputation as a high-quality alternative to official LEGO brand communications, focusing on detailed set reviews, builder interviews, and technical analysis of complex models. It emerged as part of a growing movement of enthusiast-led print media that sought to provide more critical and nuanced perspectives on the hobby than traditional retail catalogues or promotional materials.
The editorial design and layout of the magazine during this era were curated to reflect the sophisticated aesthetic of the 'Adult Fan of LEGO' demographic. By prioritizing clear photography and deep-dive editorial content, the contributors aimed to treat the plastic brick as both a design object and a medium for artistic expression. The issue was received well by the core community, serving as a snapshot of the trends and set releases defining the mid-2010s building landscape, and it remains a valued reference for those tracking the historical development of the fan-media ecosystem.
