Where it came from
Blocks magazine issue 37 was published in 2017 as an independent monthly publication dedicated to the Lego hobbyist community. Established to provide in-depth reviews, interviews with designers, and building techniques, the magazine sought to bridge the gap between casual builders and the more serious adult fan of Lego (AFOL) demographic. This particular issue appeared during a period of growth for the publication, as it worked to solidify its position as the premier third-party source for news and feature content within the brick-building landscape.
The editorial direction of the magazine has consistently focused on high-quality photography and long-form journalistic pieces, moving away from simple advertising to capture the creativity inherent in the hobby. Issue 37 maintains this standard, featuring a design aesthetic that prioritizes clarity and visual engagement. It serves as a historical snapshot of the product lines, building trends, and community culture prevalent in the mid-2010s, reflecting a time when the documentation of Lego history became a dedicated pursuit for hobbyists.
