Where it came from
Blocks magazine was launched as an independent publication dedicated to the Lego hobby, aiming to provide adult fans of Lego with a sophisticated alternative to official promotional materials. Issue 8, published in 2015, reflects the magazine's early editorial focus on showcasing community builds, interviewing designers, and providing in-depth reviews of current sets, helping to solidify the publication's reputation within the enthusiast community.
The design aesthetic of these early issues prioritized clean, high-quality photography and long-form journalistic writing. By featuring original content separate from the Lego Group, the publication sought to capture the creative spirit of the adult fan base. It was received as a significant addition to the niche print market, serving as a platform for highlighting individual fan achievements and providing critical analysis of the ever-expanding product ecosystem.
