Bob, Lofty and the Mice

Released in 2002, the Bob, Lofty and the Mice set (3273-1) was part of the licensed LEGO Duplo series inspired by the popular British children's television show Bob the Builder. The set was designed to capture the show's emphasis on collaborative construction and problem-solving, featuring core characters Bob and his crane companion Lofty, along with a small assortment of building-themed bricks. It emerged during a peak period for the Bob the Builder franchise, aiming to bridge the gap between creative block play and the recognizable narrative world of the series.

The figures and set design were developed to align with the safety and accessibility standards of the Duplo line, utilizing larger, rounded pieces suitable for younger children. The choice of characters was intentional, focusing on the dynamic between the protagonist and his machinery to encourage imaginative roleplay. Upon its release, the set was well-received by parents and educators as an accessible introduction to modular construction that leveraged a familiar, positive brand, effectively supporting early motor skill development through a recognizable media property.
