BRICK KICKS Issue No. 4

BRICK KICKS Issue No. 4 was published in the summer of 1988 as part of an early, independent newsletter series dedicated to the growing community of adult construction toy enthusiasts. At a time before the internet facilitated global fan networking, these print publications served as vital hubs for collectors to share custom building techniques, trade rare components, and discuss the evolution of sets. The publication emerged from a grassroots movement of fans who sought to elevate building from a childhood pastime to a technical hobby.

The editorial direction for the 1988 summer issue focused on structural engineering challenges and the integration of new color palettes that were beginning to appear in late-eighties sets. Designed to be both an instructional guide and a social directory, the issue featured hand-drawn schematics and community-led reviews. While the newsletter was modest in its production quality, it is now viewed as an important historical artifact that documented the shift toward the sophisticated adult hobbyist culture that thrives today.
