Where it came from
BrickJournal, launched in 2008 by editor Joe Meno, established itself as the premier publication dedicated to the adult fan of LEGO community. Issue 32, released in early 2015, served as a focused edition highlighting the intersection of science fiction and brick-building, specifically spotlighting the elaborate custom creations inspired by space exploration and futuristic themes that define much of the advanced hobbyist scene.
The issue features detailed editorial spreads and design showcases that prioritize the technical ingenuity of its featured builders. By maintaining a clean, instructional layout reminiscent of early fanzine aesthetics, the publication aimed to document the evolution of building techniques—often referred to as SNOT (Studs Not On Top)—while providing a platform for designers to discuss their iterative process and the challenges of achieving structural stability at scale.
