Where it came from
BrickJournal, edited by Joe Meno, was established to provide an in-depth look at the adult fan of LEGO (AFOL) community. Issue 35, released in 2015, served as a thematic exploration of the intersections between historical architecture and the creative use of plastic building bricks. It emerged during a period when the hobby was rapidly evolving from a niche pastime into a recognized medium for professional artistic expression.
The design of this issue focused on architectural modeling techniques, featuring tutorials and interviews with builders known for their realistic recreations of landmarks. By highlighting the structural challenges and aesthetic decisions behind these builds, the magazine aimed to bridge the gap between casual play and architectural design, receiving positive reception for its commitment to technical craftsmanship and community storytelling.
