Where it came from
Released in 1988, the Duplo 2381 Bucket of Bricks was designed to serve as a foundational building set for toddlers and preschool-aged children. During this era, the Lego Group aimed to expand its reach into early childhood development by offering larger, safer bricks that were fully compatible with the standard Lego system while remaining easy for small hands to grasp and manipulate.
The set featured a classic primary-color palette, consistent with the design language Duplo established to encourage color recognition and tactile exploration. It was conceived as a versatile introductory kit, packaged in a reusable plastic bucket to emphasize storage and portability. The product was well-received by parents and educators alike for its durability and its role in fostering foundational fine motor skills through open-ended play.
