Where it came from
The Canal Houseboat set (41702-1) was released by the LEGO Group in 2022 as part of the LEGO Friends line, a theme focused on relatable, character-driven play experiences centered in the fictional city of Heartlake City. The design reflects a shift toward more modern, eco-conscious aesthetics within the theme, featuring a buildable houseboat that integrates a vegetable patch and a market stall, encouraging narratives around sustainable living and community engagement.
The set was designed to capture the charm of living on the water, featuring a detailed interior with a removable deck and kitchen area to allow for accessible play. It was received positively by the collecting community for its thoughtful use of color and the inclusion of multiple functional zones, maintaining the signature Friends aesthetic while offering a unique structural model that departed from the traditional suburban house sets prevalent in the line.
