Where it came from
Released in 1993 as part of the Lego Town theme, the Central Precinct HQ (set 6398-1) arrived during a golden era for the brand's city-building sub-theme. Designed to anchor a growing Lego cityscape, the set features a comprehensive police station complex, complete with a jail cell, a garage for the included patrol vehicle, and a helipad. It serves as a quintessential example of early 1990s Lego design, characterized by the use of standard blue and white bricks, large baseplates, and the classic smiling minifigure faces that defined the aesthetic of the decade.
The set was conceived by Lego designers to provide children with a centralized hub for their town-based narratives, fostering open-ended play revolving around law enforcement and emergency services. It was well-received by the target audience for its modular feel and inclusion of multiple vehicles, which offered high playability. Over the years, the set has become a sought-after nostalgia piece for adult collectors who appreciate its simplicity and the specific charm of the early Town era, representing a period before the theme shifted toward more specialized, complex building techniques.
