Where it came from
The LEGO City Central Airport set, released in 2020, was designed to anchor the City theme's recurring aviation sub-theme. It was developed to provide a comprehensive play experience, combining a detailed terminal building with a functional passenger plane and a luggage transport vehicle. The set is part of a long-standing tradition within the City line of modular-style infrastructure, meant to mirror the bustle of real-world transportation hubs through interactive play features like a rotating baggage carousel and a boarding gate.
The design of set 60261-1 emphasizes accessibility, featuring a simplified build process intended for younger builders while maintaining the aesthetic consistency of the broader City range. The set includes a cast of diverse minifigures, including an airport pilot and a ground crew member, to populate the scene. Upon its release, it was received as a standard but robust addition to the LEGO City ecosystem, appreciated for its cohesive play value and its role in expanding the ever-growing metropolitan displays favored by many hobbyists.
