Where it came from
The LEGO Community People set, released in 2012 as part of the Education line, was designed primarily for classroom environments to encourage social development and role-play among children. The collection features a diverse array of minifigures representing various professions, physical abilities, and cultural backgrounds, aiming to mirror the real-world demographics that students might encounter in their daily lives.
The design of the set focuses on inclusivity and open-ended play, departing from the typical franchise-based storytelling seen in other LEGO products. By providing characters with distinct accessories like hearing aids, wheelchairs, and work uniforms, the set was intended to serve as a pedagogical tool for educators to facilitate discussions on community structure, empathy, and different societal roles. It remains highly regarded in educational settings for its emphasis on diversity and representation.
