Where it came from
The Cyber Saucer, released in 1997 as part of the short-lived UFO theme, represents a distinct pivot in construction set design during the late nineties. The set was created to tap into the era's widespread cultural fascination with extraterrestrial life and speculative technology, offering a departure from the traditional space exploration themes that had defined the brand for decades.
The design features a unique, asymmetrical cockpit and specialized translucent-green elements intended to convey an alien aesthetic. Conceived by internal design teams looking to experiment with more aggressive, modular vehicle shapes, the set received mixed reviews upon release; while some fans appreciated the departure from standard space tropes, others felt the specialized parts sacrificed the versatility characteristic of the classic space era.
