Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the LEGO Star Wars theme, the Darth Vader Transformation set was designed to recreate the pivotal scene from the conclusion of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. This set was produced as a mid-sized play-focused build, aiming to capture the specific cinematic moment where Emperor Palpatine reconstructs Anakin Skywalker as the cybernetic Darth Vader. It features a rotating table mechanism and a helmet-lowering function, reflecting a design priority on interactive play features that allow users to simulate the character's physical transition.
The set was generally well-received by the collector community for its inclusion of highly detailed minifigures, particularly the unique dual-faced Anakin Skywalker and the damaged Vader mask component. Designed by the LEGO Star Wars team, the aesthetic leans into the industrial, sterile atmosphere of the medical facility seen on Coruscant. It occupies a distinct space in the product line by focusing on a specific, emotionally charged narrative beat rather than a vehicle or starship, which is a common focus for the broader theme.
