Where it came from
The Dino Research Compound, released under the LEGO Adventurers Dino Island theme in 2000, was designed to capture the spirit of pulp-fiction jungle exploration and prehistoric discovery. This set arrived at a time when LEGO was diversifying its adventure-themed offerings, moving away from traditional western or castle settings to explore high-concept, tropical locales filled with hazards and ancient artifacts.
The design emphasizes a base-camp aesthetic, complete with a laboratory, observation deck, and a transport vehicle, all centered around the theme of managing captured dinosaurs. It was crafted to offer a blend of building complexity and playability, integrating specialized molded dinosaur figures that were central to the series' marketing and popularity among children during the turn of the millennium.
