Where it came from
The Dolphin and Crab set, numbered 471801-1, was released as part of the Lego Friends theme, a line introduced in 2012 to offer a more nuanced, character-driven approach to building sets. Designed with a focus on vibrant color palettes and relatable everyday scenarios, the theme sought to broaden the appeal of construction toys by centering on Heartlake City and the diverse hobbies of its five main protagonists.
This specific polybag release features simple, accessible builds of a dolphin and a crab, reflecting the environmental and animal-care motifs frequently woven into the Friends narrative. Like many small-scale promotional items of the era, it was intended to serve as an entry-level purchase or a supplemental gift, emphasizing the brand's commitment to imaginative play and the encouragement of storytelling within the play space.
