Where it came from
Released in 1999 as part of the short-lived LEGO Scala line, the Dolphin Show set was designed to move beyond traditional building bricks into the realm of fashion-oriented play. The theme specifically targeted a younger demographic with articulated figures and accessories that leaned toward lifestyle narratives, reflecting a late-nineties shift in the company's approach to diversification and inclusive play experiences.
The set features a vibrant aquatic theme centered around dolphin interaction, utilizing specialized molded pieces and bright colors typical of the Scala design language. While the line eventually faced criticism for its departure from the core construction system that defined the brand, the Dolphin Show remains a notable artifact of this experimental era, representing a period where the company explored softer, character-driven aesthetics before returning to their classic structural roots.
