Where it came from
Released in 2024 as part of the LEGO City theme, the Downtown Streetcar (set 60423-1) was designed to reflect modern urban infrastructure. This set captures the aesthetic of contemporary light rail systems, featuring a modular carriage design with accessible boarding platforms, reflective of LEGO's ongoing commitment to integrating inclusive play features, such as ramps for minifigure accessibility, into their city-planning sets.
The set was developed by the LEGO City design team to provide a centerpiece for expanded transit-themed layouts. It follows a lineage of municipal transport models, emphasizing playability through a multi-car configuration and a realistic street scene. Upon release, it was well-received by builders for its focus on functional public transport and its ability to seamlessly fit into wider modular city displays.
