Where it came from
Released in 2016 as part of the LEGO Dimensions toy-to-life expansion, the E.T. Fun Pack (71258) was designed to integrate the iconic extraterrestrial from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film into the multi-franchise video game ecosystem. The set captures the character's signature appearance alongside a buildable Interdimensional Phone Home device, reflecting the developer's goal of merging retro cinematic nostalgia with modern digital gameplay mechanics.
The character design was crafted by the LEGO Group's design team to maintain the specific aesthetic of the minifigure line while honoring the visual heritage of the film. Upon its release, the pack was received as a charming homage to classic science fiction, noted by fans for its compact representation of the source material and its functional utility within the game's expansive virtual levels.
