Where it came from
The LEGO Farm set, numbered 1040-1, was released in 1976 as part of the LEGO Legoland theme, a period characterized by the company's transition toward more narrative-based play sets. Produced at a time when LEGO was refining its Town system, the set provided a modest but charming snapshot of rural life, reflecting the brand's commitment to diversifying the play experiences available to children beyond simple architectural builds.
The design of the set focuses on the simplicity of early system-era aesthetics, featuring basic brick configurations to represent a small farmhouse and agricultural components. It relied heavily on the classic primary color palette and standard brick geometries that defined LEGO design in the mid-1970s. While not a complex build by modern standards, it was well-received at the time for its functional playability and the inclusion of elements that allowed children to incorporate imaginative agricultural themes into their existing city layouts.
