Where it came from
Released in 2011 as part of the Lego City theme, the 4642 Fishing Boat was designed to add a nautical element to the urban-focused line. It was conceived as a compact, playable set intended to introduce children to coastal rescue and maritime scenarios. The set features a classic blue and white color scheme, reflective of typical small-scale utility vessels found in the broader City harbor expansion series.
The design emphasizes accessibility and ease of play, utilizing a single molded hull piece to ensure the craft floats in water—a popular feature for the theme at the time. It was well-regarded by collectors for its inclusion of specialized elements, such as the fishing rod and life vest, which helped ground the set in a realistic recreational setting. Its reception was consistent with the era's focus on affordable, functional sets that integrated seamlessly with larger harbor or police station builds.
