Commuter Jet

Released in 2010 as part of the Lego City Airport subtheme, the Commuter Jet (set 7696-1) was designed to capture the efficient, fast-paced nature of modern business travel. It stands as a representative example of the City line’s focus on civilian aviation, emphasizing playability through a modular design that allows for easy access to the interior cabin. The set includes a pilot and passenger minifigure, reflecting the era's design language which favored sleek, aerodynamic builds using specialized cockpit elements to achieve a realistic profile.

The development of this set was driven by the popularity of airport-themed expansion kits within the Lego City series during the late 2000s. Design-wise, the team opted for a crisp white and blue color scheme, a staple of City aircraft models intended to evoke commercial aviation realism. Upon its release, the model was well-received by collectors and parents for its durability and its ability to integrate seamlessly with larger airport terminal sets, cementing its place as a quintessential piece of the mid-sized City vehicle collection.
