Where it came from
The 8867 Flexible Train Tracks set was released in 2006 as a functional accessory for the LEGO City train system. It was designed to address the limitation of rigid track geometry, allowing builders to create custom curves and irregular layouts that traditional plastic track segments could not accommodate. The set represents a shift toward more dynamic, user-modifiable infrastructure within the City theme, reflecting a broader design philosophy of encouraging expansive and creative railway networks.
The tracks were engineered using a segmented, articulated plastic design that snaps together to maintain a specific gauge while permitting lateral flexibility. This approach was received as a practical solution for hobbyists looking to integrate trains into compact or non-standard city landscapes. Because these tracks required careful handling to maintain electrical connectivity and structural stability, they remain a distinct, specialized component within the wider catalog of LEGO rail accessories.
