Where it came from
The Flying Moon Car, set number 40789-1, originates from the LEGO Ideas platform, which allows fans to submit their own designs for potential commercial production. This specific set was developed as a promotional item, drawing inspiration from the whimsical retro-futuristic aesthetic often celebrated within the AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) community. Its design focuses on capturing a sense of mid-century space exploration, utilizing a color palette and build techniques that pay homage to classic science fiction tropes.
The model was designed to fit seamlessly into the broader LEGO Ideas collection, a theme characterized by its reliance on crowd-sourced creativity and nostalgia-driven projects. Upon its release, the set was received as a charming companion piece to larger space-themed collections, noted for its compact build and imaginative portrayal of a lunar vehicle. It stands as a testament to the community-led design process that defines the Ideas series, reflecting a refined balance between aesthetic simplicity and thematic storytelling.
