Where it came from
The Goonies: The Walshes' Attic, set number 40773-1, emerged from the LEGO Ideas platform, a crowd-sourced initiative that allows fans to submit their own designs for consideration as official retail products. The set draws inspiration from the iconic 1985 adventure film directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg. It focuses on the attic of the Walsh family home, a central location where the young protagonists discover the map that initiates their quest to find One-Eyed Willy's hidden treasure.
The design emphasizes the nostalgic, cluttered aesthetic of the film's source material, capturing the essence of 1980s childhood exploration. By focusing on the attic, the set design team aimed to evoke the atmosphere of discovery and camaraderie central to the story. Upon its release, it was received as a respectful tribute to a cult classic, appealing primarily to adult fans who grew up with the movie and value the attention to detail that characterizes the Ideas line.
