Where it came from
Released in 1974, the Forklift set 615-2 emerged during a transitional period for the LEGO Group as they were expanding their 'Legoland' branding to include more diverse service and construction vehicles. Designed to capture the utility of industrial machinery, the model utilized a rudimentary brick-built mechanism to simulate the functional lifting arms of a real forklift, reflecting the company’s focus on fostering imaginative play through simplified, iconic representations of everyday transport.
The design is characteristic of early 1970s LEGO aesthetics, utilizing a primary color palette and a minimalist approach to structure that relied on the builder's perception to define the finer details of the machinery. While it predates the specialized Technic sub-theme, it served as a precursor to the more complex engineering models that would follow, earning appreciation from long-term collectors for its historical significance as an early exploration of functional movement in small-scale sets.
