Where it came from
Released in 1977 as part of the initial wave of the Lego Technic line, then known as Expert Builder, the 950-1 Forklift introduced a new level of mechanical complexity to the standard building experience. Designed by the internal Lego development team, the set marked a departure from traditional brick-stacking by focusing on functional engineering, utilizing gear systems and specialized pins to simulate real-world construction machinery.
The design emphasized the potential of the then-new Technic components to create movable, interactive models. As one of the foundational sets of the theme, it was received as a technical milestone that challenged builders to consider movement and weight distribution. Its success helped establish the long-running legacy of the Technic line, defining the aesthetic of functional realism that remains central to the series today.
