Where it came from
Fun With LEGO Bricks (set 5487-1) was released as part of the LEGO Education line, a specialized branch of the company dedicated to creating tools for classroom and homeschooling environments. The set was designed to move beyond traditional building instructions, providing a curated collection of classic bricks and basic elements intended to spark open-ended creativity and foundational engineering play in younger children.
The design philosophy behind this set focuses on versatility, emphasizing the core LEGO experience of stacking and modular construction. By stripping away complex thematic licensing or elaborate vignettes, the set prioritizes the tactile experience of the bricks themselves. It was well-received by educators and parents for its simplicity, serving as a functional resource for teaching spatial awareness and problem-solving through play.
