Where it came from
The LEGO City Gaming Tournament Truck (set 60388) was released in early 2023 as part of the broader LEGO City Stuntz and gaming-inspired sub-themes. It was designed to capture the modern excitement of esports, featuring a trailer that expands into a stadium-like setup complete with a gaming stage, trophy, and broadcast equipment. The set reflects LEGO's effort to integrate contemporary digital culture into its long-standing line of construction toys, providing a physical representation of the virtual gaming environments popular among its younger demographic.
The design team focused on playability, ensuring the truck trailer could quickly transition from a transport vehicle to a competitive arena. By including minifigures representing professional gamers and a commentator, the set emphasizes the social and performative aspects of competitive gaming. While it is a standard retail release rather than a limited edition model, it has been well-received by collectors for its clever use of modular elements and its success in translating a complex, high-tech hobby into an accessible, brick-built format.
