Where it came from
The 4659 Garbage Truck was released in 2002 as part of the Duplo line, a system specifically designed by the Lego Group to introduce younger children to construction play. The set reflects the brand's long-standing focus on oversized, durable bricks that are easy for small hands to manipulate, emphasizing tactile exploration and role-play centered on common municipal service vehicles.
The design follows a classic, functional aesthetic typical of early 2000s Duplo, featuring simplified proportions and primary colors intended to be visually engaging for toddlers. As part of a series intended to help children make sense of their daily environment, the set was widely recognized for its contribution to early childhood development, promoting motor skills through the process of building the vehicle and interacting with its bin-lifting mechanism.
